Is there a video game you discovered and loved YEARS after it came out, I mean, MANY years after?
Me, it was the original trilogies of Crash and Spyro, that I discovered and enjoyed on PS3 Classics

It happened to me with Spyro too with the Reignited Trilogy, never played PS games but the style was so pretty I had to try it and I liked a lot, even bought the artbook

My friend insisted I should stop everything in 2008 to play this game because id love everything about and I waited until 3 years ago to finally play it and Iām SO mad about it XD

It wasnāt a lot of time after launch but a friend gifted me his copy of Golden Sun five years after launch and I became obsessed. Some more years later, I managed to find a copy for the second part and I played it apprehensively for months. I gifted him that copy later because he hadnāt found one himself, I hope he got as much fun out of it as I did.

Honestly, Personas 3-5
A friend of mine about a couple of years ago told me that they were really fun and to try them out (honestly the main thing that convinced me was him showing me best boi Koromaru In Persona 3) but I genuinely fell in love with the series after playing only a couple of hours

Weirdly mine was P4 haha, I actually tried P3 on PS2 when it came out but didnāt do it for me at the time so when P4 came out I just skipped it but then played P4G when they re released it 3 years ago or so and it was SO good, the best in the series imo! The worst thing about missing out on the OG P4 is it came out when I was teaching English living in Japan and the town I was in was EXACTLY like the town in that game, country suburb with nothing to do besides a mega mall taking over small businesses so it probably woulda resonated more with me if I actually played it at the time. Ended up playing P3 a couple years ago as āReloadā and it ended up liking it a lot more then though!

All of my favorite Final Fantasy games (the first 5) came out before I was even born. Didnāt play any of them until I was in high school, so 2008-2012. FFIII and FFIV in particular I donāt think I played until 2013 and 2014 respectively.
Similarly, I didnāt play any Dragon Quest games until even later, in 2016, and Dragon Quest IV, my favorite so far, is one I only played for the first time in 2024 (both the original NES version and the DS remake).

I first learned of the existence of Final Fantasy back when āVIā was āIIIā on the SNES. It was always the hardest game to rent in the store and stores didnāt carry it for purchase, so it was a beast to try and keep a save going. My first FINISHED FF was X, then I, then Vā¦and I havenāt completed the rest. Played almost all of them, though.
I was also deep (no pun intended!) in the DS Era of Metroidvanias before I got a chance to play Castlevania: Symphony Of The Night. Great game, but it doesnāt occupy the same space in my heart as the Nintendo ones.

Iād say Super Metroid.
I played it a few years ago, and I was surprised by how well it held up even after so many years. Usually games from that time you can tell that thereās some dated visuals, game mechanics etc, but in this case, not really, if nobody told you, you could think this is just a modern game with a retro look.
Only issue I had with the game was being a bit too obtuse about where to go next sometimes, but even then I only got stuck like twice or so, which speaks to how well thought it was already back then.
And playing it lead to playing one of my favourite games ever, Metroid Dread, so Iām thankful I gave it a try!

A lot of my friends from my Japanese cohort in college ended up doing that and continue to live there,when I visited a few years back I wasnāt able to connect with them because uh I visited during Obon like a fucking idiot (but the mountains were SO nice and SO less hot lmao)
