[Bug?] Size Giving Ray does 10% Growth instead of 10% of user?

Forgive me if I am being wrong, but in the description of the Size Giving Ray, it mentions how the ray is supposed to give “10 Percent of your size”.

However in practice, the notification, Recent Activity, and Currently Growing tab all suggest it was a 10% of the targets size, instead of 10% of the source’s size, while the source loses 10% of their size anyways.

I don’t think this is intended functionality? It would suck if it is the intended functionality since it’s not what it says it does.

I will add this does make it less effective for the micro’s using it, 10% of a inch tall person is…nothing for macro’s really, but the description does say that its 10% of your size to them

I suppose I could update the description to clarify, but the behaviour is intentional and will remain like this. Otherwise micros giving this to macros would never be able to do anything meaningful. And this is also easier to program :p

Yeah, the current description is way too misleading given the actual function of the ray, and it unfortunately it just makes it a worse option. I do second this bring harder to program though, but I’m not aware of the codebase and can’t really say much on it because of that.

This also unfortunately means I’m out of coins better spent on regular potions, but I guess I’ll just have to wait until the next set of missions arrives.

I was really hoping to give my partner some of my size with the size giving ray to equal out our sizes, but it took miles from me, and only gave them a few feet in height. Is it possible to make that size dependent so equaling out people’s height can be easier for friends who wanna help each other out? :)

Mid said its intentional this way, it probably won’t be changed

X3 valid, I accidentally made a duplicate thread and sorta just moved the comment here. I will be alright with things remaining as they are.

I’d be willing to change the behaviour if we can find a good balance point where both situations are satisfying. That being, macros giving size to micros and micros giving size to macros.

Hiya! So I’ve decided to be a Micro and encourage others to GROW and even use what I can do to save up to be ready to mass grow others!

I have to say it’s great that the different rays have been stocked and are now unlimited! The Shrink and Growth rays are amazing, have a good balance to coin VS time value while having Splash Potions be a good, cheaper option over them, having a purpose of both!

The Size Giving and Stealing Rays, however, are actually pretty bad, especially in my current position!

People have been shrinking me en mass, and I have been loving it, and now they see the size stealing ray (Something I would LOVE usually) is a good way to shrink me AND grow them. The issue is, especially at my current size? I am barely shrinking. 10% splash potion right now has taken me from 0.05" to 0.05" - Yes, no change due to it being rounding and it being a decimal smaller. (On this, may I suggest Cells be called Microns or Micrometers, Americans do not use Cells either from everyone I asked. And that, alike people who get to watch the numbers go up in miles quicker, on the Micro side show the next tier down once you hit 0.X in it, so we can at least see the shrinking amount. Example 0.10" just counts as 2540 Micrometers/Microns)

The issue is, it’s 10% over 6 hours and when you’re this tiny? It’s painfully slow and punishing, especially when they lined up 5 uses on me which is 1 Day 6 Hours of it. It also fails against me throwing a Splash Growth on them and they give me a Splash Shrink - 10% over 3 hours > 10% over 6 hours.

I do understand the thought behind it and why it is 6 hours, however by my calculations, 4 hours would be in the spot that’s better for balance, if it stays 50 coins. Or increase the ray’s cost to 75 Coins but making it 3 hours could work! Encouraging a reason to use every type of item :yellow_heart:

On that note: I am also thinking Generic and Bundle Potions should go down in time but be self-use only options and maybe over 1-2 hours or something to encourage their use, but I would have to run more passes and balance checks on it, as options for people who just want a quick grow/shrink and not much time to chat or something.

I thank you so much for this amazing system, it has been something I’ve been talking with others about and it has been bringing the community in the chat, and some of my friends I’ve brought in, together! Please never be discouraged or think it’s causing problems :yellow_heart:

I hope to keep giving what feedback and help I can in the future.

I don’t have much input on the price balancing, but I do think that the units of measurement need a rework. My proposal is that the measurements switch from imperial to metric, as such:

When a character gets below 0.1", we switch to centimeters, and then at 1 centimeter we switch to millimeter, then micrometer, and so on. Does that sound workable?

if the ray gets rebalanced i actually would like something slow and long-term as an alternative since i prefer growing over reaching extreme sizes

Yeah I think that would work, or as I’ve been thinking, going for Micrometers once below 0.10" for the simple reason of “Number moves faster.”

As you can see with people much MUCH larger, you can actually watch them grow every few seconds/minutes on the profile, and I would love to keep that feeling going so it feels like I am actually shrinking! Only reason why I would suggest a smaller measurement down just so it’s a larger number and watching it quicker

That could work too, it could be slow but stronger as well as a possible balance. The only thing with long duration/times is that it can cause more que backups. Mine started off with a good day of size stealing rays, which also added to it growing so massive  which could be both a good and bad thing, depending, I guess!

considering the difference in preferences, it might be cool to do something along @Kole’s perk idea such as having the option to make a character’s size change doubled but over twice the duration (kind of like a corpse bloom from risk of rain). more work than just adding an item, but i think it’d be worth it.

Damn, now I want a refund for the Size Stealing Rays because I can’t simply take 10% of someone’s size, not to mention it wasn’t immediately obvious how almost everyone has shrinking disabled. This completely ruined the game for me.
