Meet the locals! 🐴

Any horses here?

Meet the residents of the New Forest - the New Forest Ponies.

They roam all year amongst the Woodlands and Heathlands. The New Forest National Park is the largest unenclosed land in Southern England. By spring time you’ll see little baby ponies all over the place, and in May it’s the mating season when the stallions are released.

If I was a herbivore, I would definitely choose a horse. But I love meat too much

I like to add there’s also donkeys and cows alongside the ponies. In Autumn it’s Pannage Season, pigs are released to eat all the acorns. The New Forest is the only place left in Europe that still practice the ancient, medieval right of Pannage.

Awww they look cute, I always forget that wild horses are a thing. I dunno it just slips my mind that they can just do that instead of being owned

The ponies are owned by the commoners - farmers and landowners in the New Forest. They have the ancient medieval right for their animals roam free to pasture.
