Micro May Part 2: Electric Boogaloo

HEADS UP: The shop has been restocked once more with goodies!

Didn’t think we’d get two mega announcements this month did you? Well here we are, Micro May may be nearing an end but we’re still going!

Here is another collection of cool things we’re doing this month that I hope you’ll enjoy. And believe me, it’s a lot! But in case you missed the last one, here is our previous post about things happening on the forum this month:

Banner Vote Result :wyv_cool:

Today voting for the new banner has concluded. Congratulations to @Argyle for winning the banner vote. His glorious peets will now be shown to every poor soul entering our forum for the coming period, and the color theme of our modern theme “Horizon” has been adjusted slightly to match the vibe.

This was an absolute blast to do! And it certainly won’t be the last time. Keep an eye out for future banner votes. I recommend “Watching” the announcements category to be notified of any new developments on the forum as well as our next banner vote event.

Voicerooms :wyv_scream:

We have recently added a peer-to-peer voice calling system to the forum which we have named the “Waterbowl”, a furry take on the watercooler commonly used to spark up conversation with coworkers at the office.

This voice system is barebones by design and completely privacy friendly, meant just to offer a way to talk to other members to hang out, game, chill, or to organise forum events such as our beloved game nights in. This makes it possible to do these types of things without needing people to join another platform they might not be comfortable with. This way you can stay in our adult and furry safe space.

Give it a try! You can find the Waterbowl in the bottom of the left sidebar menu. You might have to scroll down a bit. Please keep in mind the voice room is an experimental system and its development is not directly within our control, so if bugs or problems occour we cannot immediately resolve them but will forward the issue.

Just in: Event Scheduling!

The Events category has transformed into an event calendar for the forum. People can now create events in their posts within this category and they will be scheduled on the forum’s global event calendar, which you can find by clicking the “Upcoming events” menu item in the left sidebar or by going to the Events category itself.

Alongside that our VRChat Meetup has received a regular bi-weekly scheduling and has turned into our forum’s first event on the calendar, settling on a time we feel like has worked best for most people the past while. We might introduce another timeframe for the other bi-weekly cycle eventually.

Wanna be notified of the events when they happen? Look them up on the calendar or go to the post in the Events category and click on “I’m Interested” or “I’m Going”. You can also subscribe to the all upcoming events in a series, add them directly to your personal calendar, and much more!

There is a lot to unpack here, like automatic chat channels for events (useful when paired with the voiceroom for our game nights for example) so please take a look and let us know what you think.

Size system 1.1, 1.2, 1.3 and… 1.4?

Ever since the initial release we’ve been hard at work improving upon the size system based on your feedback. We have added daily quests, a store with a large variety of items and effects like size stealing, growth/shrinking animations, folders and organization, etc etc.

And we have a lot more on the horizon, like a Macrovision integration and coming up in the next update: Roleplays!

The update is sadly not really ready yet but you can already explore the first steps in the form of the roleplay object, found on your characters page. This update is meant to copy the features I once had in RPDashboard (rip), where you can create roleplays with several characters and have custom code-defined triggers influence their size as a handy way to keep track of the size of your characters while you roleplay with someone. That description only scratches the surface of what you’ll be able to do once done, but I think it’s best explained by seeing.

For now, know that the roleplays might not behave properly yet and contain issues and bugs, but you’re free to play around with it for now.

We set up a ko-fi

We recently opened up to donations from members to cover the costs of running the forum and ensure the long-term health of the community. I was absolutely blown out of the water by the positive response and support from our members as we crushed our monthly expenses goal by 150%.

A huge and sincere thank you to @xoddiel, @darkclawbunny and @Volt who all subscribed to support the forum through a monthly donation, I am extremely grateful for your support. Your contribution will help keep this forum thriving. As a reminder, anything left over from our expenses will be put into events with rewards for the members of the community, and I already got some great ideas ;3

For more information read the post we made about it:

Something to celebrate :wyv_heart:

And last but not least; Astor, our Head Moderator, has recently been accepted by the Dutch immigration service! He will be moving to The Netherlands in a few months. To celebrate this enormous and amazing milestone we’ve decided to give every single person 10 20 points on the size system. Enjoy!

… and some more that I probably forgot :alz_spooky:

You get the idea, I hope. Every day I try my best to improve the forum in some way, fuelled by the positivity I see coming from all of you. We recently hit 600 members and engagement has been through the roof for the past while, with well over 1000 posts happening per week now. It’s amazing seeing so many share my frustration with big platforms and seek more real connections on the internet through places like this forum. If there is ever anything you think we should work on, please let me know.

Thank you for being here, and keep being amazing.

Voicerooms! Whoa!

:sergei_waggy:

I have been using voice chat extremely little for a long time, especially after leaving Discord. While I always kept it to direct chats, maybe I could experiment a little here and get more comfortable in larger VC rooms!

While I’m not sure I will make good use of this feature, thank you for implementing that! Regardless whether it was a drop-in library or made from scratch (which would be pretty insane), I love seeing features like this being added. Most other communities would just use Discord for that.
