This is Risk! Or at least the first version of him I ever come up with lol. Lumenx are an original species I made, inspired by pokemon designs and kobolds that an old friend helped me design and drew the ref sheet for.
Lumenx come from a desert planet that is unsurvivably hot during the daytime for most living things on the planet. Lumenx themselves spend the days underground in caves and only surface at night when things have cooled down. Their markings, undersides, insides, and eyes can glow and change color, but are always bright ones. Lumenx can naturally produce electricity and sense it through electro-receptors.
Some lumenx, such as Risk, experience an event known as awakening that allows them to use a handful of inborn magical abilities. They can move supernaturally quickly, sense movement (and anything next to something moving) in a very large radius around themselves, and power magically fueled devices by touching them.
Though they don’t know it, lumenx themselves are the descendants of magical genetic experiments done on a species of ordinary lizards to give them the ability to wield lighting magic innately. Those were non-sapient but evolved to that state naturally over the course of eons. The people who created them are long since gone, having been wiped out in a cataclysm they caused which also put the planet into the dire state the lumenx find themselves in. Knowledge of magic itself is more or less entirely lost by the lumenx’s time.
